Finding Documents in FBIB

Searching for titles

If you have more or less of an idea of what you are going to search for, but you don't know any titles yet.

via LIMO

If you don't know the exact title, you can search via LIMO for key title words.

via FBIB's systematic classification

In FBIB, the documents are displayed according to a systematic classification. The shelf numbers direct you to your subject in the corresponding section on the shelves. At the beginning of each section, e.g. 19N-KAN (= author modern period, Kant) you will find a further subdivision (000 till 099) with lexica, bibliographies and reference works concerning the subject in question. More information on the systematic classification can be found on the page Systematic classification .

via general reference books

- Encyclopedias, philosophical dictionaries, and philosophical author lexica: see section FHIW 10
- Manuals on the history of philosophy: see section FHIW 19A

on the basis of the main philosophical bibliographies

The following bibliographies are all available through LIMO.
- International Bibliography of Philosophy (FHIW 10B-100: paper version)
- Philosopher's index
- Francis- Bulletin signalétique des sciences humaines

Finding Documents

You already have one or more titles (books, articles, ...) and you want to find the documents.

via electronic catalogues

To find out if a book or journal is available in the University Library, search the LIMO. These catalogues also include titles held by other partners in the LIBIS library network.
If you cannot find the desired item in LIMO, you will need to search other catalogues. For books, the best place to start is the CCB (Collectieve catalogus van België - Belgium's Central catalog titles); for journals, a good source is Antilope (the union catalogue of periodicals present in Belgian scientific libraries). Both catalogues may be consulted on the internet via LIMO.
You can also search catalogues of other universities or national libraries.
