Searching our collections

Studente aan boekenrek - (c) Rob Stevens

Limo

With this search platform you can query all KU Leuven collections, plus the collections of other LIBISnet-libraries. With one query you can search for and in a variety of document materials: printed and electronic books and journals, audiovisual materials, digital files and other types of sources. All search results are presented in one integrated list, as a default ordered by relevance. Via the filter facets on the left hand column you can refine your search results (e.g. limit to KU Leuven libraries).

Collections

The University Library offers a wide range of paper and electronic collections that can be searched with one query in Limo:

  • Physical collection
Printed books and journals, CD's and CD-roms, video's and DVD's, maps, musical scores, microfilms, etc.
  • Databases, e-books and e-journals
All e-sources to which the UB has a subscription or license, and a selection of freely accessible e-sources (incl. Open Access).
  • Books and articles available in Lirias
Lirias is the digital repository of scientific publications by KU Leuven staff. As such it is also used for the univerity's Open Access policy.
  • Electronic publications indexed in Primo Central
Primo Central is an index of hundreds of millions articles and e-books (chapters), based on data offered by publishers and content providers or uploaded from open access-repositories. The index already covers various e-journal collections  and databases to which the University Library subscribes or has a license, or that are freely available. Primo Central still is a work in progress, though: the amount of content  still increases monthly.
Therefore consult thePdf filecurrent overview of indexed sources + selection of important sources that are not yet searchable in Primo Central (and Limo).

Link resolver (LibriLinks)

Example of LibriLinks menuSearching in Limo or on a publishers online platform you may encounter a link to our link resolver LibriLinks, by way of the LibriLinks button- or -button or for example the linked text "KU Leuven LibriLinks". A link resolver leads you from a bibliographic reference to the full text version of an article. If that is not possible (because KU Leuven has no access), it tries to lead you to information on the printed version. If this is also not available at KU Leuven, an ILL-request is suggested.
You are also offered options to find related information (impactfactor, Google Scholar, ...) and to save citation information.
Lastly you may sometimes find recommendations in the LibriLinks-menu, through the bX service. These are generated automatically based on analysis of worldwide usage data. This results in the presentation of potentially related articles: "Users interested in this article also looked at ...”.

With the LibriLinks A to Z list you can search or browse (e.g. by subject) for e-journals available within KU Leuven.

With the CitationLinker you can enter a reference yourself to check whether full text is available within KU Leuven.

Search help

A general tutorial from the University Library is under construction and will be available soon (contact: Jan Bollansee). Below you can find an overview of available tutorials, FAQ's and manuals from the libraries.

You can always contact the library staff for help with your searches.

The University Library regularly organizes info sessions on the use of e-sources for KU Leuven staff (will be announced timely on the UB News section).

Some libraries provide customized toolbars. That way you can do a search in your internet browser at any time and receive news from the library.
