Copying - printing - scanning - photographs
Payment cards for the copying and printing can usually be bought via a dispensing machine, sometimes at the library desk.
There are payment cards of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 units. The offer of cards varies by library. The tariff is 0.05 euro per unit.
These cards are for sale and valid in all KU Leuven libraries (except Campus Library Kortrijk) and the KU Leuven pc rooms.
The user shall be deemed to comply with the legislation on copyright and to respect the physical integrity of a document. For conservation reasons we strictly watch on reprography of fragile items or heritage material. Sometimes it is just not allowed.
Copying
Photocopiers can be found in all libraries.
Color copies are not standard everywhere. In some libraries that can on request. They cost 1 euro for an A4 and 1.50 euro for an A3.
Printing
Print jobs can be launched from all public PCs, also in some libraries from your own laptop (WiFi).
Print orders are typically processed by one of the copiers in the library or pc room.
Select your print command, insert your payment card in the reading unit and the photocopier prints. Print jobs disappear after some time from the queue.
Payment cards for these prints are identical to the payment cards for copying. Printing is at the same rate as the photocopy.
Scanning
In some libraries you will find separate scanners. Then it will often be performed by library staff, to € 1 per scan.
In most libraries this function is integrated in the copiers and then you do it yourself, to € 0.05 per scan.
The photocopiers are linked to a computer that you can save the scans on a data carrier that brings your self. You can also send the scans to an e-mail address.
Microfiches and microfilms
Reading
In most libraries you will find reading apparatus for microfiches or microfilms, both for positive and negative sheets or films.
Printing and scanning
In some libraries you can also print or scan the microfiches or microfilms.
A print costs 0.30 euros for a A4 and 0.60 euros for a A3.
A print by library staff costs 1.00 euros for a A4 and 2.00 euros for a A3.

Photographs
In most libraries (digital) photography is allowed and even encouraged because it is less stressful for the physical integrity of sensitive documents, e.g. at newspapers.
