University Library user survey

The University Library evaluates its service quality

Global results for the University Library

The LibQUAL+™ survey was carried out from October 20, 2008 until December 8, 2008. We have recorded 4325 responses (in English + Dutch), which corresponds to a response rate of nearly 10.9% for the population of students and academic staff. Overall, one can say that the average respondent is quite satisfied with the services and products of the University Library.

We can distinguish two major trends from the report:
  • Strengths:
    • Collections
    • Services and expertise of library staff
    • Quiet and inspiring library spaces
  • Weaknesses:
    • Remote access to electronic resources
    • Lack of suitable workspaces for groups
    • Too limited opening hours

More detailed figures for the whole University Library can be found in the LibQUAL+ detailed reportPdf file (108 pages, English).

Results per library

The K.U.Leuven University consist of one Central Library and ten Campus or Faculty libraries. It is not possible to analyze the dataset of (sub)libraries within LibQUAL’s analyze tool. Therefore we took advantage ot the expertise of Dirk Heerwegh (Centre for Sociological Resaerch). He created an online web tool which was suited for internal benchmarking and analysis of the results on each (sub)library level. If you want to consult the results of a specific library please contact us at Libqual_Support@bib.kuleuven.be. The responsible librarian will contact you.

Results of user groups

At the K.U.Leuven we had a response rate of 88% students (undergraduate + postgraduate), 10% staff (faculty + staff) and 1% library staff. Without the Library staff the distribution of the whole population is 89.41% students and 10,59% staff.
