Thanks to an active collection building policy, the Central Library holds several major collections:

University Publications (Collectio Academica): All the publications related to the (history of the) Leuven University, and all the publications edited by the University or by the academic staff.	BIBC
Publications of  National Academies: The publications of the Belgian academies are (partially) directly accessible, main reading room, 2nd galery. However, the publications, issued by foreign academies are stored in the stack-rooms.	BCLZ
Archives: All inventories or guides issued by Belgian archives, and those from abroad who are related to Belgian history. In addition a core collection of auxiliary sciences to the historiography.	BTAB
Library Science, Librarianship: A core collection of reference works and handbooks (in a large sense), and the most important current periodicals.	BVAK
Manuscripts and Book Science: Catalogues of manuscripts, edited world-wide, and publications about the history of books and librarianship (until 1900). In addition: studies about paper, typography, graphics and historical cartography (until ca. 1850).	BTAB
European Studies: A multidisciplinary collection.	BCLZ
Newspapers: A depository collection of domestic and foreign newspapers and related reference works and indices.	BKOP
Lovaniensia: Publications and documentation about the City of Leuven.	BTAB
Government Publications: The publications of the Belgian federal and regional authorities, of the European Union and of the major international organisations.	BKOP

For the rest, the holdings of the Central Library increase through gifts and through exchange with other university libraries, and through her role as a depository library of the K.U.Leuven. These acquisitions, however, are not treated as separate collections and they are not directly accessible. (Look up via LIBIS and/or the card catalogue [editions before 1971] ).
