Journal
articles
The main type of tool that will help you to find articles
on your topic is that of indexes and abstracts. These are reference
sources which record in an organized way the contents of journals.
Increasingly abstracting and indexing services for journals
are available on CD-ROM and online as full text. This means
that CD- ROM or website provides access to the full-text of
articles which have been indexed by the service. Therefore there
is no need to search first the CD-ROM and afterwards locate
a copy of the relevant journal.
Bibliographies, abstracting & indexing
services:
- Multidisciplinary:
- IBZ - Internationale
Bibliographie der Zeitschriftenliteratur
aus allen Gebieten des Wissens. (GBV)
- ZDB - ZeitschriftenDatenBank
- Francis - Bulletin
signalétique. (CNRS)
- PiCarta - Database
with Table of Contents of journals
in Dutch libraries. Articles
(print copies) easy accessible
via InterLibrary Loan.
- Ingenta is
more than a classic abstracting and indexing
service, it is a global research
gateway,
giving the opportunity to search accross
15 subject gateways, e.g. Economics & Business,
Mathematics& Statistics, Computer & Information
sciences etc. Subject area resources
include: online journals, statistical
data, e-prints, software, technical reports,
grey literature, reference resources,
specialist e-communities. You have only
free access to the full text of journals
for which K.U.Leuven pays a subscription.
For access to other journal articles there
is a pay-per-view system. Pay-per-view
deliveryof electronic articles is dependant
on publisher policy and a small number
of electronic journals are not available
as pay-per-view. EBIB does not have (yet)
a library deposit account for pay-per-view
delivery. Please contact the librarian
if you have questions.
- Specific
discipline:
- EconLit is
a source of citations and abstracts to
economics research going back to 1969. EconLit
includes journals indexed for years in the
Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) as well
as books and dissertations. In addition,
EconLit includes citations to articles in collective
volumes indexed in the annual volumesof the
Index of Economic Articles and the full-text

by the Institution
of Electrical Engineers (IEE). The database
dates back to 1969. Over 3500 scientific
and technical journals and some 1500 conference
proceedings, as well as numerous books,
reports and dissertations are scanned for
relevant articles to abstract and index
for inclusion in the database. Subjects
covered: physics, electrical/electronic
engineering, computing, control engineering
and information technology, materials science,
oceanography, nuclear engineering, geophysics,
biomedical engineering and biophysics.The
full scope of subject coverage is given
in the INSPEC Classification
scheme, see especially section C Computers & control
and section D Information technology.
- MathSciNet,
the Mathematical Reviews Database is the
database of bibliographic information and reviews
created and maintained by the American
Mathematical Society (AMS). Journals,
conference proceedings, and books of mathematics
research are covered going back to 1949
and updated daily.
- Zentralblatt
MATH, is the abstracting and reviewing
service of the Department of Mathematics
and Computer Science of the FIZ
Karlsruhe. Subject coverage since
1984: pure mathematics (e.g. algebra,
logic, topology, geometry, analysis) ,
probability theory, statistics, mathematical
physics, classical, solid and fluid mechanics,
numerical mathematics, mathematical programming,
theoretical computer science and automation
theory, systems theory, control, operations

website.
- Other
disciplines:
Complete
overview of all databases available via K.U.Leuven
intranet. You can also go the websites of other
K.U.Leuven libraries, which offer you more information
for specific disciplines.
Citation
indexes:
Citation indexes are based on the concept that
references (citations) in a book or article indicate
subject relationships between the current article and
previous and posterior publications. Contrary to the
most other bibliographic systems, with citation indexes
you can search forward in the time, from older to later
publications. Web of Science (WoS) consists of three separate
databases that can be searched independently or
in combination: Science Citation Index (SCI), Social
ScienceCitation Index (SSCI), Arts and Humanities
Index (AHCD). WoS
is a product of the Institute
of Scientific Information (ISI), as is Current
Contents and Journal Citations Reports (JCR). Go
to the ISI
website for more info.
Databases of electronic journals
- Ebscohost:
A one-stop reference system, being the same
time a bibliographical instrument with references to journal
articles, and a full text database. Ebscohost gives
access to three databases:
- Business
Source Premier (BSP):
Provides full text coverage of scholarly business
, management and economics journals. Includes also
publications covering topics such as accounting, banking,
finance, international business, marketing, sales
etc. Datamonitor Company profiles for ca 5000 companies
worldwide.
- Academic
Search Premier (ASP):
Provides journal coverage for most academic areas
of study, including economics, computer sciences,
business, banking & finance, engineering. Although
BSP is the most interesting database, there is a significant
overlap with ASB and even some titles of interest
only included in ASB. Title

- SwetsWise (formerly
SwetsNet):
Access to full
text of journals with a print subscription at K.U. Leuven
via the subscription agent Swets & Zeitlinger. Includes
also all the full text-journals of the publishers Blackwell/Munksgaard,
Academic Press and Harcourt Health Sciences. SwetsNet
is also a bibliographic and current awareness instrument,
using the Tables of Contents (TOC's).
- Ingenta:

Other:
Other stuff:
- ISI Journal Citation reports or JCR
Web - a residual product of WoS- provides easy access
to data that helps you evaluate and compare scholarly
journals. The JCR can show you the: highest impact journals,
most frequently used journals, hottest journals, largest
journals etc...
- Everything you want to know about e-journals:
e-journals lists & directories, legal & business
issues, usage studies etc. you can find in the Electronic
Journals: a selected resource guide.
- The Journal Storage Project JSTOR was
established as an independent not-for-profit organization
in August 1995. Mellon Foundation sponsored a pilot project
to provide electronic access to the backfiles of ten journals
in two core fields, economics and history. In 2002 the
JSTOR business collection containts a total of 46 titles.
FEB is not yet a participant of
the JSTOR archive, this means that we only can
access a title
list and info about availibility
and fees.
