Every call number has a 'relator': a character that indicates the sort of book. The purpose of the relator is to keep works with commons together in a UDC category. Often used relators are:

A fundamental reference works (large format)
B smaller reference works
BB dictionaries
C retrospective bibliographies
D current bibliographies
F theses
G monographs, manuals
L- works covering certain countries + country code
N- works covering certain persons
