Loan and renewal

The maximum number of documents that can be loaned depends on the reader type.

Publications from the Central Library can be returned after hours in the return box (Blijde Inkomstraat). This is emptied on working days around 9 am.
Publications available in libraries outside of Leuven can be requested via interlibrary loan (ILL).
Certain publications are not lent, e.g.:
- reference collections (reading rooms) and loose-leaf publications.
- current or not bound volumes of periodicals.
- printed books published before 1901.
- fragile or large sized documents (newspapers, atlasses), publications in a bad condition.
- rare documents .
- unpublished K.U.Leuven dissertations.
- university publications ( academic collection) (shelf number starts with "Ca").
In case of late return a uniform fine rate applies in all libraries.

Renewal of the loan period is possible, on express request, unless another reader has made a reservation for the publication. The request for renewal must be made before the document's return date.
The maximum number of consecutive renewals and the duration of one renewal depends on the reader type.

- at the desk of the Main reading room .
